Category: Safe Haven
Hi All, What are some of your favorite web sites? Your own count! Mine are www.deraitland.com, which is my own, www.zonebbs.com, wonder what that is, www.whitestick.co.uk and www.google.com! I have many more though, like www.audiogames.net and www.dogpile.com. And of course all my friends' personal sites. And and and and ...
Caitlin
http://braille.wunderground.com is good for checking the weather, www.zonebbs.com too, www.analogx.com, who knows, wwww.searchalot.com, what in the world? www.launchcast.com
Analogx is cool! Also www.acbradio.org and www-audio-tips.com and www.cyberspeaker.net and and and and ...
The short list of my favorite sites:
www.pcsgames.net
www.audiogames.net
www.redwhiteandblue.org
www.whitestick.co.uk
www.funnyfriends.co.uk
http://maddox.xmission.com (I think thats the address, i dont know, i just know its in my favorites folder)
www.teenadviceonline.org
and, of course, zonebbs.com! Note: if your easily offended, i would not advise going on the funny friends site or the maddox one. Just giving you a fair warning, since this is in safe haven and all.
www.zonebbs.com, www.google.com, and www.livejournal.com
Troy
OK. Here's my long list. *laughs* www.google.com (for searching), www.abledata.org (for finding info on many disability-related products), www.medicinenet.com(for easy to understand/detailed info about medical conditions/procedures), www.recipesource.com (for recipes), www.howstuffworks.com (for how stuff works *smiles*), www.disabilityresources.org (for it's list of many places to find info on disability subjects), www.timeanddate.com (for info on time, date, dialing code and how to use them, etc.), www.mapquest.com (for maps and driving directions), www.nationmaster.com (interesting statistics on countries and also some other common and sometimes personal info on them), any place where you can find informative articles and books to read online, and www.braillebookstore.com (although I wonder if you can pay by check?) There was also a site I think on the Braille International Inc. website where they sell very up-to-date Braille books (like even the ones by Dr. Phil) although those seem pretty expensive to me. I think I could think of more sites, but I'll stop here and maybe post some more later. *smiles*
Leilani
wwww.rampantscotland.com
www.Carsfromitaly.com
www.Ferrari.it
the www.zonebbs.com...sook! Smile.
Yahoo.co.uk
Google.co.uk.
www.simcon.net/jkitchen
www.comedycentral.com
www.livejournal.com, www.google.com, www.zonebbs.com
And a load and a half of radio/DJ/trance related sites. grin
My long list of favs: Mine are linked up.
Blindvi, a website listing for the blind and visually impaired
Blindvi website boards
The Zone BBS
Eyes2Eyes.com
LiveJournal
Google
CNN News
BBC News
JFWLite
Funny Clean Jokes
Jokes.com
First, I won't list this site because it's a given that I like this site, else I wouldn't post. Otherwise, here are some which haven't been mentioned.
www.incorrectmusic.com
www.mikesmess.com
www.mikesradioworld.com
www.radio-locator.com
www.speaktomecatalog.com
www.amazon.com
www.jandr.com
www.live365.com
www.shoutcast.com
Well, I can't think of a bunch off hand, but acbradio was pretty much one of my favorites, until Jonathan Mosen left it, then it sort of went down hill. I guess the uk audio network is one of my favorite sites, though I wish they'd fix the link to the hosiprog theater stories. I have a bunch of short story web sites, where you can read from short story magazines online, but since I used google to get them, and just added them to my favorites folder, I don't know what the urls are. Other than that, a favorite of mine for looking up words is, www.infoplease.com
I've found a lot of words on there. I found it through pcworld magazine. I get the magazine in braille, but sometimes they have some good sights listed under top web awards, or the best of the web. I like the howstuff works site, but what's so annoying, is that's always trying to force you to download flashplayer, and I don't want to download flashplayer, other than that, it can be interesting.
wonderwoman
Cool sites, all! I shal check them out!
Caitlin
Also www.pdaudio.net and www.andrelouis.com and http://andrelouis.com rock!
Caitlin
Oh and www.themillionweb.com, ftp://snowmanradio.dns2go.com and www.snowmanradio.com!
Caitlin
Okay call me crazy, this is the last post I'll do today, www.bored.com and www.forwardgarden.com and www.awaymessages.com are good too, for a laugh. And funnycleanjokes.com is a favorite too!
Caitlin
www.jfwlite.com, www.bathroomlife.com
Hahahahhaaa Bathroomlife is cool! Also www.blogger.com, www.livejournal.com, www.xanga.com, www.diaryland.com, www.freeopendiary.com and www.diary-x.com are all good journaling sites.
Caitlin
Most of mine have been mentioned allready, but here we go. www.zonebbs.com of course, www.livejournal.com, www.google.com, www.loc.gov/nls. There's more, but those are my top four.
Yeah, Web-Braille rocks. And soon will bookshare, as soon as I get it. Oh and www.pulsedata.com is awesome, of course! Woot!
Caitlin
If you like dogs, go to www.furry-paws.com or if cats are more your deal, go to www.purefelinity.com which are like the sims for owning dogs and cats, and if I find any more of these type things, I will let you know. enjoy! :)
Linking things is not my forte, but...
Livejournal:
www.livejournal.com
Zonebbs, of course.
Blurty, another journaling site:
www.blurty.com
there is more, but I can't think so...
Cortcort
I'd have to say that www.cricinfo.com is right up there with the most wonderful websites in the world. Also www.spectator.co.uk, www.conservatives.com, and if you're interested in history and authentic criminal trials from the seventeenth sentury, www.oldbaileyonline.org is a very good website indeed.
Among the ones I check regularly, www.webhostingtalk.com for the businessy stuff, www.allaccess.com, www.kurthanson.com for radio news, www.dealnews.com, www.pricewatch.com, and of course www.ebay.com. And one that's a community site for my university, but it's not really worth mentioning since you have to be a student there to do much.
Hrmmm.. lemme see.. Google, LiveJournal, J-Store (online academic related database), websites of some of my friends, class websites (useful for any relevant info), and.. that's all I'll mention at this time. My mind's gone blank o.O
A sight also worth mentioning is www.howstuffworks.com that is such such good value .. and of course .. how could i forget www.racheldk.webhop.net not that it's not in bad need of updating! :)
Rdfreak: That's a very interesting site, seeing as I'm always wondering about how something works and can never figure it out for the life of me :P Thanks!!! :D
Here are mine in no particular order of course. www.thehardstuff.net, that's an online metal station, www.icedearth.com, the official site of my favorite metal band, www.livejournal.com, and last but not least www.zonebbs.com.
A large number of my favorites have already been listed so, I'll stick to those that haven't. My favorites are below:
My last post didn't turn out correctly. There should have been two bulleted lists of live links. I don't know what happened. I know it's valid code.
Forgot about www www.blogthings.com and www.sparknotes.com which has great study guides and sumaries of books.
If you want an accessible virtual pet, go to www.powerpets.com, and if you want to use me as your referral, PM me and I'll give you the big link for it. Caitlin
Oo a notes page.. Thanks!!
whoa there are lots of webs to check out... maybe I will come with more later.
'Ere's some of me favorites.SampleSwapfat-pie.com (not porn although there is content that many would probably deem (deam?) unacceptable especially on this board)This site is just too cool to have a nameAudioGames dot nizzetziizz!Hurray for everything!Dunnow.James
Gese, way to disable HTML you guys..... James
www.s4.invisionfree.com/moonlakeweyr and www.fanfiction.net
I dunno GD the HTML for some reason doesn't work anymore. Maybe you could put all those URLs with their descriptions above or below them, as some of those web sites sounded interesting. I love lots of those and have been there a lot in some cases. Hehehe. HowStuffWorks is very cool, and so is RdFreak's page, woot woot hehehe! If anyone likes fanfiction, especially Harry Potter, I recommend www.schnoogle.com!
Caitlin
Two more Harry Potter sites: www.jkrowling.com and www.harrypotterrealm.com. That last one has fan fiction chat and lots more.
Well, I have a few though I've been having fun with Tribe.net. It's an interesting place, full of boards on whatever topic you can think of. After signing up,you can join tribes, or communities, with people of similar interests, as well as find others who belong to similar tribes, etc. The site does have a few graphics, and can be interesting to look at at first, but i've found it well worth the effort. Has anyone else here heard of it?
It sounds cool....I will check it out!
www.deafpopulace.net and www.alldeaf.com and www.deafnotes.com and my sites, www.freewebs.com/hockeysigner and www.Heather-hutchison.com and deafchat.com and deafkids.com and deafaroundtheworld.net and many more but I shall save you your eyes or ears -Heather
Hey, I've never heard of that tribes sight, sounds interesting. I'll really have to go and check it out.
Here is a sight I go to sometimes to read short stories online.
www.darkplanet.com
At least I think that's the correct url. I have lots of short story magazines where you can read shortstories from the magazines online, but I don't know the url's by heart, since I found most of them through google, and
www.yousearched.com
I found dark planet, and 2 other online magazines from isac asimov's science fiction magazine. There's a writer who does a bimonthly column about different kinds of science fiction, or science magazines. He gave a list that didn't fit any particular category, and I wrote them down and added them to my favorites.
I'll have to post these sights one or 2 at a time, just to make sure I have the urls correct.
wonderwoman
I forgot one. Www.deafplanet.com that site rox my sox, yo!
Another good harry potter site, owned by a zoner here, is www.marauders-map.net. I think that's the right URL. And Heather Hucison rocks!
Caitlin

wonderwoman
www.rathergood.com, www.twth.org, www.netsquirrel.com, www.savemybutt.com, www.kurtelling.com, www.a440musicgroup.com/jackie/, www.wgnradio.com/shows/digilio_nick/index.html
My bad, www.a440musicgroup.com/Jackie, make sure the J is capitalized.
Oh, about that www.braillebooks.com site, you can order by mail or phone also. To order by mail, you just act like you're going to order online, but instead of finishing sending it, you print it out and mail it with a check, and they don't charge for shipping! *smiles* So you're just paying exactly what it costs. That's the way I understood it, but if you have questions, just email them and the person is quick to respond and very helpful.
Some other good sites to check out are www.gutenberg.org, digital.library.upenn.edu/books, and www.bibliomania.com (for online books to read), www.andythenamebender.com (for meanings of many names), and www.dol.gov (for information relating to jobs and working in the United States). That last website also includes the Occupational Outlook Handbook )which tells specifically what is involved in each kind of job.)
Leilani
Sounds awesome, TB! And WW your'e right, Dogpile rocks!
Caitlin
P.S. I'll do Liam a favor and promote his new site. www.liamerven.com ... check it out.
Putting this one here because I just ordered some stuff off it last night: www.braille.com the National Braille Press site. They have books and stuff. (very vague I know)
I ordered a copy of ten minute guide to windows 95, when I first got started on the computer
wonderwoman
Oh I had that too WW! It was good wasn't it? And on the Zone today, while QuickNoting some sites were mentioned that sounded good, www.braillepaper.com and www.braillebooks.com ... check it out! Caitlin
Thanks Caitlin, I did check out braillepaper.com, but I ordered 500 sheets of braille paper from the american printing house for the blind. According to the braillepaper site, it looked like they sell only printer paper. Another good site is www.billsparks.org. He has lots of different kinds of radio stations. He has talk stations, and all different kinds of music stations too. I haven't been there in a while but the last time I was there, he had hundreds of them.
wonderwoman
Also I forgot to mention www.alexisbooth.com. She used to live across the street from me. She's got an amazing voice, and was way ahead of her time even back in high school, not to even mention the recent Downbeat and Billboard awards she acquired. Go check her out.
Nifty Blink will check it out, and sounds cool WW, will see to that oen too!
Talking of great singers, www.nancysings.com is home to a great gospel singer whose brother is on the zone! Lol...
really? What's his user name? oops, sorry he may not want anyone to know, I was just curious.
wonderwoman
I"m sure he doesn't midn as it's in his profile. His username is Saxman on here. By the way, an awesome site is www.luv2bablyndi.net ... as i already mentioned, adn it's got its own topico n the boards as well...
Yes that's a wonderful sight. It's a pity there isn't hardly any messages there. The quickest way to check new messages is to choose the link that says, new posts since your last visit. For the last 2 days, it says no results were found for your search. I signed up as soon as I saw Chets post about it. I like it for obvious reasons, which I guess I can get in to, since this is the safe haven board. I don't think the 2 that started that site will tolerate people being mean just for the sake of being mean. You have to choose an I agree link before you can register. I just hope trafic there picks up and the boards get widely used.
wonderwoman
Hi WW, Yeah, I haven't really gone on the boards much, but when I have there's not much activity. I wonder how the Zone got so popular? I know it's taken awhile, but now look, tons of topics and members and fun. Hopefully luv2bablyndi.net will be like that someday, I'm sure it will. it deserves it, it's an awesome site.
Yes it sure is, and I go on there every day to see if there are any new posts. I hope they will add a quicknote feature, that would be great. There isn't much activity in the let's talk board, at least there wasn't when I went over there earlier. I'm mostly going back and forth from board to board. I just have to choose whose topics, which posters to reply to and not to reply to, that's all. I don't really know if procrastination is in the genes or not, though probably most of our personality isin our genes, hard to tell.

www.soundaround.uk is a nice site, but when I listen to the person explaining how to navigate through the menus, it breaks up on me. Www.yrguk.uk doesn't break up, but as far as games go, about all they have are quizes, yuk, I'm just not a quizzy person.
wonderwoman
This is because for the uk audio network they use real player and real player files are smaller so are easy to go through a dial up connection. Sound around is using windows media player which is using larger files.
